Education Foundation's first fund raisers of the year generate nearly $4,000

WARWICK — The Warwick Foundation for Excellence in Learning has started the school year off with two successful fund raisers that combined raised nearly $4,000.

The 1980s

On Sept. 17, the foundation hosted its first - and nearly sold out - Decade Themed Party at the Warwick Valley Country Club to benefit the students and teachers of the Warwick Valley Central School District.
This year's decade theme was the 1980s. Guests came dressed in neon with big hair and shoulder pads, or as rockers or movie characters from the decade.
The dance floor was packed as guests danced to popular 80's tunes spun by the talented DJ Chris Gill and marveled at the graphics, window décor and sign donated by Steve Hoey, owner of KDF Graphics.
The event’s silent auction offered chances to win opportunities for bidder’s children to be “Principal of the Day” in each school building, “Mayor of the Day” and other leadership experiences.
“We want to thank Dr. Leach and his Administrative team at the WVCSD for their continued support,” said Vanessa Holland, the chairwoman of the foundation.
Event co-chair Kristine Buonanno added: “This event would not have been possible without the design services talent of Nanette Hoey owner of Goals Marketing & Design, the support and donations from Grappa Ristorante, Halligans and Friyo owner Frances Bachmann and generous donations from BiohiTech America and H.O.P.E. Daylee USA.”
The organizers also offered their thanks to the following for their contributions: Mayor Michael Newhard, Orange County Clerk Annie Rabbit, Sheriff Carl Dubois, County Executive Steven Newhaus, District Attorney David Hoovler, The Warwick Valley Country Club, Country Courtesy Caterers, Warwick Football and Cheer, Warwick Car Wash, Peck's Wine and Spirits, B&R Liquors and Agadir International.

Meanwhile on Sept. 23, the Warwick Foundation for Excellence in Learning held its third annual event at the Warwick Drive-In.

“We are so lucky to have a Drive-In in our town and are so grateful to once again have the opportunity to work with Drive-In owners Beth and Ernest Wilson,” Holland said. “Fund raisers like these help us fund our mini-grant program for our teachers and help us fund collaborative efforts with our district like the Leadership Academy, Career Fair and Job Shadowing programs."
