WARWICK — Although there was bright sunlight and clear blue skies, it was breezy and a little on the chilly side. But that didn’t deter approximately 200 children, parents and grandparents from attending a traditional Easter event.

On Saturday, April 7, the fifth annual Village of Warwick Easter Egg Hunt was not only moved from Stanley-Deming Park to Veterans Memorial Park but was also co-sponsored by the Warwick Volunteer Fire Department along with the Village of Warwick Recreation Department.

Earlier that day, Warwick Fire Department members and other volunteers had placed thousands of candies in the baseball field. The Easter Bunny was also on hand to greet the children and pose for photos.

About 15 minutes before the start of the egg hunt, all the children were lined up in three age groups; seven to 12, four to six and three and under. Moms and dads were permitted to help the toddlers and everyone else enjoyed watching the children.

Prize-winners After last-minute instructions and a countdown, the children were off and hunting, not only for the ordinary goodies, but also for three “golden eggs.” Each one of these entitled the lucky child to a special prize.

The golden eggs were successfully retrieved by Oliver Portugal, 6, Danielle Berry, 8, and Kristina Correa, 3.

Immediately after the egg hunt, volunteer firefighters held a contest for the best decorated Easter basket.

This year, the judges, Mayor Michael Newhard, Joe Ceranolo, president of the Warwick Fire Department; Jo-Anne Dobbins, president of the WFD Ladies Auxiliary and Ron Introini, Warwick Recreational Director declared the winner to be Grace Coleman, 3.
