Dr. Ann Studer builds a family wellness community

WARWICK — Chiropractor Dr. Ann Studer has always made family care a priority since she first opened the Chiropractic Life Center in Warwick more than 15 years ago.

Three years ago, however, the birth of her own daughter, Vivi, reemphasized the importance of family care for her as she faced new responsibilities as a parent.

And so last fall, with the assistance of Lisa Albornoz, a patient and mother of three, Studer formed a "Pathways Connect Family Gathering Group."

Designed to introduce and foster the family wellness lifestyle, Pathways Connect support groups for moms are nationwide and there are no fees.

The "Pathways Connect Family Gathering Group," sponsored by Chiropractic Life Center, 10 Colonial Ave., meets monthly and features guest speakers with various topics on alternative health.

"Navigating the world of health care in this modern world is confusing and many mothers say to me that they feel alone if they are on a slightly different path," said Studer. "The goal of the Pathways Connect Family Gathering Group is to give everyone, regardless of the path they travel, a place to come together to learn about all the options out there. Thus, pathways do indeed connect."

Studer opened the Chiropractic Life Center in 1998. She is licensed in New York and is a member of the New York State Association for Network Chiropractors.

Studer has also served as adjunct faculty with the Marist College Integrated Studies program, teaching alternative and complementary health care.

Webster Technique
She is certified in Network Spinal Analysis and recently earned her certification in the Webster Technique for pregnancy as approved by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.

The Webster Technique is a specific adjustment protocol for all pregnant women. The goal is to reduce interference to the mother's vital nerve system and provide balance to the pelvis. Studer said that women who receive the adjustment commonly have relief from low back pain, sciatica and other common complaints of pregnancy.

The next Pathways Connect meeting, which will feature Christie Barner of Bluestone Acupuncture, is Thursday, March 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The topic of discussion will be Eastern Medicine for Children
