Dispose of your unwanted drugs

WARWICK — Flushing unwanted medication contaminates water resources, putting the environment and public health at risk.

Keep drugs out of the water supply by safely disposing of your unwanted pharmaceuticals. Bring them to a collection event sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Warwick Coalition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Caboose on South Street in Warwick.

Members of the public may bring all their unused and expired medication for collection and safe disposal, with no questions asked.

National studies have found low levels of pharmaceutical drugs in the drinking water supplies of 41 million Americans, according to the Citizens Campaign for the Environment. The CCE says pharmaceutical water contamination is an emerging threat to public health, wildlife, and the natural environment.

Properly disposing of pharmaceuticals at drug disposal take-backs is always a better option than landfilling them or flushing them down the toilet.
