GREENWOOD LAKE — The Captain is selling the keys to his castle.
Former New York Yankee Derek Jeter's lakefront property in Greenwood Lake is now on the market for $14.75 million.
Jeter purchased the property, located at 14 Lake Shore Road, 15 years ago. Also known as the Tiedemann castle, the 12,590-square-foot stone house has three-stories, six bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.
The property features an infinity pool with a waterfall, extensive gardens, a lagoon, a boat house, an elevator, and a replica of the Statue of Liberty.
According to the listing by Wright Bros. Real Estate Inc. in West Nyack, the castle was built in 1915 by New York City doctor Rudolph H.E. Gudewill.
John Tiedemann, purchased the property, then called the Gudewill Castle, in 1952, according to Record Click genealogy. William “Sonny” Connors, Jeter's maternal grandfather, was raised on the property after John and Julia Tiedemann adopted Connors.
Then in 2004, Jeter purchased the Tiedemann castle from his grandfather and the second parcel through Greenwood Lake Properties LLC, according to public records, bringing the total property to 4.01 acres. Tax records indicate Jeter acquired the two-parcel property in two transactions that totaled $1.625 million.
“It has been lovingly restored,” the listing reads, “with unparalleled attention to detail, beyond its original grandeur over the past 15 years.”
Other features of the estate include four indoor kitchens, a fifth kitchen outdoors, a wood-burning fireplace, a balcony, a wet bar, an exercise room, a detached four-car garage and a guest house.
“Soak in extensive lake views after climbing the turret stairs that provide access to the roof and a separate 'widow's walk,'” the listing reads. “Entertain easily in the pool house and expansive patio space or in the game room and Great Room. Retreat to one of the quiet den spaces when you want to get away from it all.”
The property sits on 700 feet of Greenwood Lake shoreline with water access.
As of Wednesday, the listing online at Zillow.com had been viewed 63,134 times.
After a 20-year career, shortstop Jeter retired in 2014 from the New York Yankees as a five-time World Series champion.
He is now the CEO and a co-owner of the Miami Marlins and primarily lives in a 30,000-square-foot waterfront mansion in Tampa, Fla.
