WARWICK — It was hometown USA again.
And judging by the huge turnout of onlookers along Main Street eagerly awaiting the Homecoming Day Parade on Saturday, Sept. 16, it was a good day for Warwick.
The students also raised nearly $1,300 for hurricane relief.
Homecoming 2017 included spirit week, float-building at the bus garage, an in-school pep rally, powder puff game, bonfire, parade through the Village of Warwick and Wildcats football game.
King and QueenThe Homecoming King and Queen, chosen from the Senior Class, were Steven Mehling and Bella Jardine.
Mehling, who is both a member of the Warwick Valley High School Band, which marched in the parade, and the Wildcat Varsity Football Team, could not ride with the Queen.
The weather was picture-perfect for the Warwick Valley High School's 46th annual Homecoming Day and everyone had an opportunity to enjoy another great parade along Main Street featuring floats designed by each class.
Juniors win float contestEveryone agreed this year that once again the students had produced very creative floats, each with a "Pixar" theme depicting the Pixar Animation Studios productions.
Local and school officials, who served as judges, were seated on a stand decorated by both members of the FFA and students in the school's Floral Design Class.
They voted first place to the juniors for their "Finding Nemo" float.
A creative sophomore float featuring "Toy Story" came in second followed by the seniors' float, "Monsters," and freshman's float "Up."
That same afternoon, the Warwick Wildcat Varsity Football Team improved to 3-0 with a 36-15 victory over Saugerties High School.
Homecoming Day faculty advisors this year were Danielle Bugasch and Jeffrey Jacobsen.
Class advisors were: freshmen, April Beauregard; sophomores, Jim O'Brien; juniors, Jeanine Fogler; and seniors, Lillian Bonet and Jeff Jacobsen.
