— There's a new veterinary hospital in Warwick.
On Dec. 27, Dr. Sarah Marpet and Dr. Brian Civatte opened their Country Willow Veterinary Hospital at 87 Kings Highway between the Warwick Town Hall and the entrance to the Village of Warwick.
The veterinary husband and wife team met the first week of vet school at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
They are Warwick residents and recently welcomed a daughter, Everleigh, nine months, into their family and so far, they report that she is an animal lover.
That's good news since they share their home with two dogs, Alastor and Piglet, as well as an umbrella cockatoo named Sammie.
Growing up around animalsDr. Sarah, as she prefers to be called, grew up in Chester, N.J., riding horses and raising sheep with her two older brothers and her parents.
She especially enjoys treating exotic animals such as birds and bunnies as well as emergency medicine.
Dr. Sarah also has an additional certification in canine rehabilitation medicine from the University of Tennessee.
Her husband, Dr. Brian, is originally from southern New Jersey, but grew up in North Carolina on a horse farm.
He specializes in soft tissue surgery as well as ultrasonography.
Opening their own veterinary hospital was a long time dream
The couple said that they felt a strong pull to move to Warwick after repeatedly visiting the area and enjoying the local hiking, wineries and restaurants. And they can now be found regularly taking hikes along the Appalachian Trail with their daughter.
Avoid the emergency clinic 'shuffle'After working at other hospitals, the two veterinarians wanted to create a warm, progressive environment that is open to all types of animals and medical conditions.
They explained that it was highly important that they could hospitalize patients overnight and continue care in order to avoid the emergency clinic "shuffle."
This dream became a reality with a local veterinary hospital, equipped to handle most emergency needs including stat ultrasonography, blood transfusions and exotic animal emergencies.
"If you are looking for a local family friendly veterinary hospital that is happy to see pets of all shapes and sizes," said Dr. Sarah, "please consider Country Willow Veterinary Hospital."
