Celebrating Warwick's history
WARWICK — The music, the appetizers, the craft beer and cider, dinner by Grappa Ristorante and homemade desserts along with picture perfect weather worked together to make the 47th annual Historical Society Party in Lewis Park a big success.
On Saturday evening, Aug. 25, approximately 220 guests gathered both outside and under the huge tent and met friends while enjoying music provided by Soulia and the Sultans along with sampling a signature cocktail designed by Black Dirt Distillery, craft beer from Pine Island Brewery and craft cider from Pennings Cidery.
It was described as an evening of celebration focusing on Warwick's vibrant agri-tourism industry, from scenic orchards and pumpkin patches, to wineries and cideries and farm-to-fork restaurants.
Honorary chairs namedAnd during the evening, Cathryn Anders, president of the Historical Society, and Executive Director Lisa-Ann Weisbrod welcomed guests and announced that this year's honorary chairs were the Wright Family of Wright Family Farms, the Pennings Family and the Grizzanti's and Jeremy Kidde of Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery.
AuctionIn addition to a silent art auction, there were nine colorful "cows" in the park that were auctioned during the party or by online bidding.
They were the creations of local students, representing each of the schools in the town of Warwick: including Park Avenue Elementary, Sanfordville Elementary, Warwick Middle School, Warwick High School, Greenwood Lake Elementary, Greenwood Lake Middle School, Golden Hill Elementary, SS Seward Institute and St. Stephen-St. Edward's Elementary School.
The Party in the Park, formerly known as the Under the Tent Party, is the historical society's major fund raiser and proceeds from this event are still being tabulated.
EssentialsFor more than 100 years the society has been the caretaker of many precious properties, including Lewis Park and the Old School Baptist MeetingHouse.
The Shingle House, for example, which is the oldest building in the Village of Warwick, is currently undergoing renovations.
