WARWICK — Students from St. Stephen School as well as teen volunteers from Warwick Valley High School helped collect and then deliver more than 1,000 pounds of donations for the Warwick United Methodist Ecumenical Food Pantry.

The effort began with the St. Stephen School’s Lenten Food Drive. Each class was asked to bring in donations and the class that collected the most goods would receive a prize.

Donations from the Kindergarten through the eighth grade totaled more than 1,000 pounds.

The prize for the class which collected the most went to Margaret Sinnott’s sixth grade class; the students collected more than 300 pounds of food and other necessities.

Teen volunteers from Warwick Valley High School also came in on their own time after classes to round up the goods and weigh in each class. The students then sorted and delivered the goods to the Warwick United Methodist Ecumenical Food Pantry on Forrester Avenue in Warwick.

Meanwhile, St. Stephen’s will also be donating a portion of all proceeds from its upcoming 5K Race that will be held on Saturday April 27, 2013.
