Bowl to help end human trafficking
CHESTER — The Monroe-Woodbury Rotary Club is hosting its second annual bowl-a-thon fundraiser to benefit Safe Homes of Orange County on Saturday, June 10. There are two sessions, from 4 to 6 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Colonial Lanes in Chester.
Did you know that human trafficking stands to surpass, in volume and revenue, illegal international trade of guns and drugs, and is happening right here in our country?
Did you know that one in four women, and one in seven men, have been the victim of physical abuse by an intimate partner in their lifetime?
Last year, Safe Homes received more than 100 referrals for children who were victims of sex trafficking, labor trafficking, or suspected of being trafficked. Most of the cases involved victims between the ages of 13 and 18 years old, with some as young as 5.
The funds raised for the bowl-a-thon will support helping victims to: safety, emergency shelter, medical care, counseling, legal services, food, clothing, and personal items.
Participants in the bowl-a-thon must be pre-registered. Go to www.mwrotary.org/batsh to register or call Elaine at 845-662-6253 or Cliff at 845-235-4825.
