Backpack Snack Attack fund raising-dinner and raffle raise more than $7,200
Warwick. Diners were served at candle lit tables during electric power outage in Warwick Village.
On Monday evening, Dec. 9, the Backpack Snack Attack dinner/raffle fundraiser raised approximately $7,240 with all proceeds going toward the program.
And despite the fact that power went out in most of Warwick Village during the main course serving, a good time was had by all as they dined by candlelight.
The eighth annual event, supported by many local businesses, organizations and individuals, was again hosted and sponsored by Grappa Ristorante at 22 Railroad Ave. in the Village of Warwick.
For the past ten years elementary school children in this area have been taking advantage of Backpack Snack Attack, a charitable program designed to insure that needy children always have enough to eat on weekends when they’re not in school.
The program is available to public elementary schools in Warwick, Florida, Pine Island and Greenwood Lake.
There are almost 300 children currently enrolled and the $7,240 proceeds should cover the cost of more than 1,300 meals. .
In addition to the dinner, a month-long Holiday Raffle was completed with the drawing taking place during dessert at the Grappa Ristorante Dinner.
All prizes were donated by Town of Warwick merchants.
The eight annual dinners have now raised more than $63,000.
“The menu was a wonderful four-course meal provided by Grappa with all proceeds going to Backpack Snack Attack,” said volunteer Len Singer. "We are so appreciative of the generosity of Grappa Ristorante, specifically Tony and Nick, for carrying on this annual fund-raising tradition.”
