— Orange County Clerk Annie Rabbitt announced Monday, May 7, her campaign for the 42nd New York State Senate District.
The incumbent, Republican John J. Bonacic, announced last week that he was stepping down following the completion of his term in December.
Rabbitt was joined by county officials, local community leaders and members of the public as she kicked off her campaign to represent the 42nd District which includes parts of Orange, Ulster and Delaware counties and all of Sullivan County at a press conference in Goshen.
“My priority has always been our community, our issues and our people," Rabbitt said. "Now, more than ever, we need a strong voice representing us in Albany to ensure the Hudson Valley and Catskills are not forgotten. That is why I am proud to announce my campaign to be the next Senator from the 42nd District
“The issues facing our district are problems that can be solved," she added. "When in the State Senate I will fight to ensure we receive our fair share of school aid, to deliver property tax relief, be a champion for job growth and economic development including downtown redevelopment, community revitalization and small businesses empowerment. We must fix our local transportation infrastructure and help improve the quality of life in this state.
"I have the track record to get it done. During my time as County Clerk and prior to that in the State Assembly and local government I have worked across the aisle to get results and accomplish any task at hand," Rabbitt continued. "The values I learned as a small business owner and president of my local chamber of commerce have guided me through every step.”
Support from Neuhaus DuBois and BrabenecOrange County Executive Steve Neuhaus described Rabbitt as a friend who "I've always admired her for her dedication to the community. She cares deeply about serving residents and that has been illustrated throughout her career.
Assemblyman Karl Brabenec, who had indicated that he was interested in seeking the senate seat, also spoke at the event and endorsed Annie for Senate.
Immediately following her campaign announcement press conference Annie launched a whistle stop campaign tour, making stops in each county within the 42nd Senate District.
Rabbitt previously has served in the New York State Assembly, on the Warwick Town Board, Greenwood Lake Village Board and as president of the Greenwood Lake Chamber of Commerce.
From Delaware to OrangeThe district stretches from Walton in Delaware County to Tuxedo in Orange County. In Orange, the district includes the cities of Middletown and Port Jervis; the towns of Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Tuxedo, Wallkill, Warwick and Wawayanda; and the villages of Chester, Florida, Greenwood Lake, Maybrook, Otisville, Tuxedo Park, Unionville and Warwick.
Meanwhile, Democrats Jen Metzger of Rosendale and Pramilla Malick of Protect Orange County are both seeking the office. And considering the length and depth of the 42nd district, other candidates may surface.
