AME Church names new pastor
WARWICK — Bishop Gregory G. M. Ingram of the First Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church has appointed Rev. Kevin T. Taylor as pastor of Warwick’s Union A.M.E. Church.
Taylor will move to the Warwick parsonage this February.
A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Taylor attended Tuskegee University in Alabama where he majored in political science and minored in mathematics. He is presently director of finance for Achievement First Inc., a network of 22 high-performing, achievement gap-closing charter schools in New York and Connecticut.
Tutor as well as preacher
Taylor has held positions in the fields of education, journalism, hospitality management and most recently, finance. He is also a tutor in calculus, geometry and algebra for those taking standard college and graduate school entrance exams.
As an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Taylor led congregations in Alabama for three years before joining Grant A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles, where he was leader of the “Wings of Faith” travel ministry, co-director of Vacation Bible School, and Sunday School co-teacher.
In 2007 Taylor relocated to New York and united with Bridge Street A.M.E. Church where he distinguished himself as a dynamic and creative preacher, teacher and workshop presenter.
$1 Challenge
Taylor has been a preacher at the Seven Last Words of Christ service, co-facilitator of the Pray Shops, Bridge Builder presenter, Youth Explosion Parent Workshop leader and co-chairperson of the Prayer Convocation. As Minister to Stewardship and Church Growth, Taylor issued the “$1 Challenge” as part of Stewardship Month, empowering members to consider how they can make a difference with a single dollar.
“We’re looking forward to great things and a great vision of experiencing what God has in store for this church,” said the new pastor. “I believe God has some great plans and great things in store for us.”
Warwick’s Union AME began as a mission around 1905 for people of African ancestry.
