Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation launches 2017-18 appeal

— The award-winning Albert Wisner Public library is much more than just a place to take out books.
It's where people gather for events, work at computers, take out CDs, relax with a newspaper or magazine, view art exhibits, obtain free museum passes, watch movies and performances, attend lectures, learn new skills and much more.
The Albert Wisner Library Foundation has just launched its annual 2017-18 appeal at a Holiday Open House held on Thursday, Dec. 14.
The mission of the Albert Wisner Library Foundation is to provide private financial support for the library, thus creating opportunities for the library's continued growth and enhanced service to the residents of Warwick.
Each year a portion of the library's operating income, as well as support for programs and collections, comes from tax-deductible gifts to the appeal.
Last year, for example, the library expanded its popular museum pass program, added a 3D printer, hosted a variety of musical and dramatic performances, welcomed thousands to the annual 2017 Warwick Children's Book Festival and hosted the Warwick Literary Festival.
"We do all that we do," said Library Director Rosemary Cooper, "with both public and private support."
In addition to expanding the parking lot this year, the library also built an accessible patio for reading and performances as well as terraced lawn seating.
The foundation would like to provide umbrella tables and chairs, picnic tables and benches for performances or just relaxing outdoors. And for a donation of $300 you can be a sponsor with an inscription of your name or that of a loved one on a plaque in the patio.
Donate to the annual appeal in December or January and your gift will be doubled up to $25,000 thanks to matching grants from Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes and Donna Applegate and her husband, Jonah Mandelbaum.
"We hope you will consider one of the opportunities to support our appeal," said Cooper. "Every gift makes a difference to our library."
She added that no gift is too small and every gift makes a difference to thousands of local residents who rely on the library to enrich their lives.
Donations for this annual appeal are counted up to July 1, the end of the library's fiscal year. To qualify for matching funds, however, they should be made during December and January.
