WARWICK — Warwick Valley High School seniors Jacob Butchko, Alyssa Schaechinger and Chloe Borthwick are the recipients of the 2018 Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation scholarships.
They wrote essays on the topic: Indicate a character in a fictional book or an actual historical figure who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.
Jacob will matriculate at Marist College, where he plans to pursue studies in biology and/or environmental science.
Alyssa will attend Clarkson University where she intends to enroll in the pre-dental program.
Chloe will pursue a dual program at William Paterson University, focusing on jazz singing and classical oboe performance.
All three will receive $1,000 from the foundation toward college tuition.
This is the 12th year that the foundation has awarded college scholarships in an essay competition. Steadfast library supporters and benefactors Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes have sponsored two scholarships since the inception of the competition in 2007.
C. Hope Arber added a third scholarship in 2012.
The scholarship competition is open to college-bound seniors who reside in the Warwick Valley School District, regardless of what school they attend and including home-schooled students.
Next year's essay topic will be announced in January 2019.
