WARWICK — The Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation has announced the recipients of its 11th annual college scholarship essay competition: Warwick Valley High School seniors Madison Grefski, Mika Leonard and Jennie Prial.
They wrote on the assigned topic "Indicate a character in fiction or an actual historical figure who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence."
Grefski is bound for Hartwick College to study nursing.
Leonard will attend the University of Rochester to study biology and cello performance.
Prial will attend Xavier University to study nursing. (Her sister Brigid was a 2015 recipient of an AWPL Foundation college scholarship.)
They will each receive $1,000 toward college tuition.
Warwick residents and library supporters Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes have offered two scholarships since the inception of the competition; C. Hope Arber added a third scholarship in 2012.
The competition is open to all college-bound seniors who reside in the Warwick Valley School District, regardless of which school they attend and including home-schooled students.
Next year's essay topic will be announced in January.
