Jonathan Harter graduates from Port Authority Police Academy

Florida - When Jonathan Harter graduated from the New York-New Jersey Port Authority Police Academy on April 14, he followed his father, several uncles and great grandfather into law enforcement. The graduation ceremony was held in the grand ballroom at The Hilton in Staten Island, marking the end of an intense, comprehensive 26-week training program based in Jersey City, N.J. In addition to learning both NY and NJ law, training went far beyond physical challenges for the 126 recruits, including everything from firearms instruction to counter-terrorism response. Law enforcement runs in Jonathan’s family. His father, Daniel Harter, is a New York State Trooper with 29 years on the force. His uncle, James C. Watt, is police chief for the Village of Goshen, with 28 years of service. Jonathan’s great grandfather, John George Heinzelman, was a police officer in the Village of Goshen in 1927. He also has several other uncles who work in law enforcement. Harter is a 2004 graduate of S.S. Seward Institute in Florida and received his associate’s degree from SUNY Orange in 2007. He lives in the Village of Florida and has been assigned to work the George Washington Bridge.
