Installation of officers, social to be held Oct. 24

    PINE ISLAND-The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce has chosen Russell Kowal, a life-long resident and third generation onion farmer, as the 2004 Citizen of the Year. Kowal has a long history of involvement in various community organizations and activities including being past president of the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce. He is currently Treasurer of that organization as well as a member of the Town of Warwick Zoning Board of Appeals. Other organizations that he has been involved with for the past several years include Orange County Farm Bureau, Orange County Vegetable Growers Improvement Association, and Cornell Cooperative Extension. The Citizen of the Year Award will be presented at the Pine Island Chamber's Annual Installation of Officers and Social to be held Sunday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jolly Onion Inn. The Chamber will also present youth awards to three local students, Alyson Tomczak, Jacqueline Clark, and Michael Sidoti. Town of Warwick Justice Peter Barlet will install the 2005 Chamber officers at the event. Tickets are available by calling Sue D'Attolico at 258-4762 or Tara Boutoille at 742-8853.
