Ice storm leaves thousands without power

WARWICK - Last Friday, Dec. 12, approximately 3,000 Warwick residents lost power and cable services as a result of a severe ice storm that morning that resulted in fallen trees blocking roads and downing wires. Additional crews from outside the Orange and Rockland service area arrived to help restore service in the Warwick Area. And by Saturday evening, most essential power services in Warwick were back to normal. Meanwhile, WVT Communications’ technicians were continuing their efforts to restore service to the hard hit portions of their serving area affected by the Thursday night ice storm. WVT’s New Jersey serving area includes parts of Sussex and Passaic counties, where the storm impact was most severe. While the WVT service area in Orange County saw effects of the storm, it was to a lesser degree. Joyce Stoeberl, senior vice president of operations, said more than 60 percent of customers who called in service troubles had been restored by Tuesday and that the fiber plant is fully operational. To report an outage or check the status of service restoration, call the WVT Service Center at 845-986-1111. Keep the number handy, considering the weather report for this weekend includes heavy snow and wind.
