Gynecological oncologist joins St. Anthony medical staff

Warwick - Elizabeth Poynor, M.D., PhD , has joined the medical staff of St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick as a gynecological oncologist. “Dr. Poynor’s compassion and her dedication to finding the very best course of treatment for each woman facing a cancer threat make her not only a leader in her field, but an outstanding addition to our medical staff, said Thomas Brunelle, executive vice president and administrator of the Hospital. Poynor received her doctor of medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Columbia University in 1988 and completed her internship and served as chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Following her internship, she completed a four-year fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Surgery for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where she remained on staff for ten years. Poynor also has held faculty positions at Cornell University Medical College in New York. Poynor is board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology. She is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Medical Association, Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, Fellow, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Society of Clinical Oncologists, American Association of Gynecologic Laproscopics, and North American Menopause Society. Her research interests include extensive work with the genetics and molecular biology of ovarian cancers. She has been published in journals and trade publications and has been a commentator on MSNBC; UPN Channel 9 News; NBC Today Show; and ABC World News.
