Middletown —The Regional Economic Community Action Program's food pantry is gearing up for Thanksgiving. The 40-year-old charity, located at 40 Smith St. in Middletown, is preparing for the annual distribution of holiday meals to low-income individuals and families in western Orange County. The organization's goal is to distribute 700 holiday food baskets this year. A family of four with an income of $35,798 would qualify for the free turkey and trimmings. The income limit for individuals is $17,705; for a two-person household, $23,736. For each additional family member, add $6,031. Required documentation includes photo ID, proof of address, Social Security cards, birth certificates, and proof of income. Anyone interested in participating must call or visit the program's office during September to set up an appointment. Call 342-3978, ext. 30 (Stephanie Capone — English only) or ext. 21 (Maria Alvarez — Spanish and English). Financial contributions, gifts of non-perishable food, and volunteer time are always welcome.
