Warwick. Beautiful People hosts inaugural ‘Out at Our Park’ Home Run Derby
On Sept. 18, Beautiful People hosted its first “Out at Our Park” Home Run Derby along with food, drinks and other fun activities for kids at its field at Town of Warwick Wickham Woodlands Park. Approximately 170 people attended the event.
The home run derby was sponsored by the Michael and Erin Martucci Family Foundation.
New York State Sen. Mike Martucci (R,C,I) represents the 42nd Senate District, which includes the Town of Warwick and most of Orange County.
Beautiful People, Orange County’s largest adaptive youth sports league, is a community sports organization and 501(c)3 nonprofit, founded by Peter Ladka in 2006.
The organization provides adaptive baseball, soccer, basketball and cheerleading for children and young adults with developmental disabilities and physical challenges, ages five and older. The purpose is to enable joy, inspires hope, and fulfill dreams among those with disabilities and their families.
The family-friendly derby was a competition to find the best home-run hitter within a variety of age brackets and ability levels.
Forty adults and older athletes were swinging for the fences while younger competitors had modified home run targets to keep the event fun and rewarding. Each participant had ten chances to swing at soft toss pitches on one of our Wickham Woodlands baseball fields.
