Warwick — Many heard her music at the Railroad Green last month. Others heard her play at the Lycian Center’s lawn series. Now, Rebel Red, the soulful singer-songwriter has been awarded an honorable mention in the 15th annual Billboard World Songwriting contest for her song, “On My Guard.” Red, who just released her first album in 16 years entitled “Sex, Religion, Politics, is thrilled with the honor. “’On My Guard’ is a song about defending one’s boundaries and refusing to play the victim,” said Red. “I wrote the song in a state of pain and after I wrote it I felt better. That in itself made the writing of it highly worthwhile. The award is icing on the cake.” The Billboard World Songwriting contest attracts thousands of songwriters from all genres of music including rock, pop, jazz, blues, country, rap, contemporary Christian and folk.
