Robert E. Brock
Robert Ernest Brock, formerly of Warwick, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Phoenix, Arizona, on Thursday, July 14, 2016, after a long bout with prostate cancer.
Robert Brock lived a full and adventurous life, during which he visited every continent, including Antarctica. He skied until he was 86 and went skydiving at the age of 87.
He went scuba diving long before NAUI (the National Association of Underwater Instructors) or PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors) existed.
He had three marriages that outlasted the national average by far. During the course of the first two marriages, he fathered his eight children in four decades.
Robert Brock was known throughout his eventful life by many names. His brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews called him Ernie because his father’s name was also Robert.
He was known as Bob throughout his more than 40 years of working in New York at Marlin Firearms, Hunter College, Miller Associates and Sound Service to name a few.
He was known as "Bowtie Bob" for a while after he developed and eventually sold the patent of a bow tie that lights up when you shake someone’s hand.
Many friends and family members also referred to him as Brock or Robert.
He was known as Dad by his loving children and his grandchildren called him Grandpa or Poppy.
He is survived and greatly missed by three sisters: J.C. Compton, Patricia Doerschlag and Annis Skousen; six children: Robert Elwood Brock, Steven Brock, Kevin Brock, Robin Chapman, Reuben Brock and Julia Brock; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Brock, his second wife, Andrea Brock, his son, Byron Brock and his daughter, Cynthia Brock.
A celebration of his life will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sept. 24.
