Richard J. Van Saun of Wantage, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. He was 63.
Son of Joanne (Tanis) and the late John Van Saun, Richard was born April 5, 1958, in Paterson, N.J. He grew up in Wayne, N.J., and lived in Prospect Park, Hewitt and Hardyston, N.J., prior to settling in Wantage in 2008.
Richard was a master carpenter and had co-owned and operated D&R Construction. Richard had been working at Lowes after deciding to close the business.
Richard had a deep love for The Lord and was a devoted member of the Sussex Christian Reformed Church. He had a passion for many things, and always made the most of the hobbies he was interested in. Among those hobbies were fishing, gardening, carpentry, cars, model rockets, and coin collecting. Richard was also a proud husband, father, and grandfather, and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. He was also an avid Mets fan.
Predeceased by his father, Richard is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Debra (Diesch) Van Saun; children, Melissa Korsakoff and her husband, Kristopher, of Greenville, N.Y., John Van Saun and wife, Emily, of Melbourne, Fla., Steve Van Saun and wife, Julia, of Windsor, Calif., and Michael Van Saun and wife, Abigail, of Warwick, N.Y.; grandchildren, Brianna, Ryleigh, Kalista, Katelyn, Madison, Harrison, Josie, and Violet, and three more on the way; as well as his siblings, Bob, Ted, Cindy, Randy, Tom, Deb, Sue, Wendy, and Danny. Also surviving is his mother, Joanne Van Saun.
Visitation was held Nov. 29 at the Ferguson Funeral Home, Sussex, N.J. Funeral Services were held Nov. 30 at the Sussex Christian Reformed Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sussex Christian Reformed Church.
