Jovita Catherine Sleder of Warwick passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021. She was 93 years young.
Born in Brooklyn on Dec. 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Stanislaw and Petronele (nee Jenkus) Urbanovicz.
Jovita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and beloved great grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was her family, whom she loved endlessly. She found comfort in Christ and led her life with love, grace, wit, humor and humility.
She gave effortlessly to the people around her. She found joy in the simple things in life, often found surrounded by Dove dark chocolates, browsing through her shopping fliers or beating someone in a game of Scrabble.
Jovita was a lifelong member of the Knights of Lithuania. She was a bookkeeper for the United Church of Christ in Manhattan.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Grill and her husband Edward; daughter-in-law Edith Sleder; six grandchildren: Melissa Gibson and her husband Derek, Edward Grill, Joseph Grill and his wife Laine Atkins, Jaclyn Derych and her husband Michael, Katrina Sleder and Joseph Sleder. She was great-grandmother of Madison Paige, Mackenna Grace, Dean, Luke, Michael and William. She was predeceased by husband Joseph A. Sleder; son Joseph Anthony Sleder and brother Felix Urbanovicz.
Visitation was held Dec. 12 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.
Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery in Queens on Dec. 13.
