Joseph G. Grassi, a retired captain with the City of New York Department of Homeless Services, and longtime resident of Chester, died on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, N.J. He was 72 years of age.
The son of Joseph and Anna Grassi, he was born in the Bronx on Dec. 30, 1948.
Joseph was married to Margaret Reilly Grassi, who survives him at home, and their two children: daughter Dina Mehta and husband Neil of East Hanover, N.J., and son Joseph Grassi and his wife Melissa of Chester. Joseph was a beloved grandfather to his three grandsons: Joseph, Andrew and Christopher. He loved nothing more than spending time with his boys.
Joseph is also survived by his sister Marie Kupchik and her husband Michael of Mahwah, N.J., brother-in-law Steven Reilly and his wife Terri of Rineyville, Kentucky, as well as nephews and cousins.
A private family viewing was held May 4 at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 3 Hudson St., Chester.
A funeral Mass was held later that morning in St. Columba R.C. Church located at 27 High St., Chester.
Burial with full military honors followed at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, located at 111 Craigville Road, Goshen.
