John P. Kelly of Youngstown, formerly of Warwick and Ft. Myers, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, surrounded by his family in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. He was 79.

John was born July 28, 1933, in Teaneck, N.J., the son of Joseph A. and Margaret (Coleman) Kelly. He was a graduate of Dumont High School in Bergen County, N.J.

John entered the U.S. Army in August 1954 and served in Germany. He was the recipient of the Germany Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged as a SP3 in August 1956.

He was an elevator constructor, employed by National Elevator Industry in New York City for 28 years, retiring in 1991. He has resided in Youngstown the past 19 years. John was a member of the V.F.W. Lake Ontario Post # 313 in Youngstown. He enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Ft. Myers, Fla. He was also an avid N.Y. Yankee and New England Patriot Fan.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

On Aug. 16, 2003, John married Sandra M. (Myers) Stevens Kelly.

In addition to Sandra, he is survived by his children: Joseph P. Kelly of Delray Beach, Fla., Nancy (Donald) Driscoll of N. Grafton, Mass., and Carolyn (Nick) Ryberg of Holland, Mich.; Sandra’s children John A. (Kristal) Stevens Jr. of Youngstown, Cynthia Stevens-Weeks of Newfane and Jeffrey Stevens of Ransomville; his grandchildren Tara Scharf, Brianne and Joseph Kelly, Sherri Valley, Jacqueline Ryberg, Megan Driscoll, Kerriann and Caylin Kelly, Stephanie Sullivan, Ryan Driscoll, John Marshall Stevens, Hunter and Kody Khan; three great grandchildren; brothers Joseph, Robert and Michael Kelly all of New Jersey; sisters Helen Collins and Geraldine Quku of New Jersey, and Mary Argenti of Florida; his former wife Margaret Kelly of Michigan; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Scharf; and three brothers: Gerard, Raymond, and Eugene Kelly.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Hardison Funeral Home in Lewiston. Flowers are gratefully declined.
