Estella May Smith of Saratoga Springs died on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at the Teresian House Nursing Center for the Elderly in Albany. She was 86.
Estella was born on April 19, 1930, in Salisbury Center. Her parents were Elmer R. Mattison (deceased) and Mary Davis (deceased).
She is predeceased by her five siblings: Howard Mattison, Inez Emery, Floyd Mattison, Clifford Mattison and Herbert Mattison.
She was married to Frank H. Smith of Warwick on Jan. 12, 1963, until his death on July 6, 1978.
She was a resident of Warwick until 1986, moving to Cape May Courthouse, N.J., until 2002, when she moved to Saratoga Springs.
She attended Dolgeville Central School in Dolgeville. She attended SUNY Orange (formerly Orange County Community College). Employment included the New York State Thruway Authority as a toll collector, Warwick Valley Central Schools as a bus driver and monitor, St. Stephen-St. Edward School (Warwick), St. John’s School (Goshen) and St. Francis School (Newburgh) as a physical education teacher.
Her final employment before retiring was for Tolz Realtors in Cape May Courthouse, N.J.
In 2004 she was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by Warwick Little League for her integral efforts in establishing the Girls Softball Program.
Estella was an avid bowler and participated in bowling leagues with friends while living in Warwick.
She is survived by her three children: Robert G. Schloicka Sr. and Joyce Schloicka (Florida, NY), Joseph W. Smith, Sr. and Melissa Smith (Westtown), Mary D. (Smith) Caravella and Andrew Caravella (Saratoga Springs) and daughter-in-law Eve M. Smith (Warwick). Grandchildren: Robert G. Schloicka, Jr. and Deirdre Schloicka (Kiamesha), Joy Ellen Gorish and Lane Gorish (Pine Island), Margaret M. Smith (Saratoga Springs), Joseph W. Smith Jr. (Westtown), Capen Burbank(Warwick), Frank H. Smith (Westtown), Madison A. Caravella (Saratoga Springs) and Ryan M. Caravella (Saratoga Springs). Great-grandchildren: Kaelyn Schloicka (Bloomingburg), Madelyn Schloicka (Bloomingburg), Kara Schloicka (Kiamesha), Reiley Schloicka (Kiamesha), Lane Gorish, Jr. (Pine Island) and Briar Gorish (Pine Island).
Calling hours are on Sunday, Dec. 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. T. S. Purta Funeral Home in Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. at the St. Stephen Church in Warwick, with interment following at Warwick Cemetery.

Her family's statement reads: "As we lose our mother, we lose a pure soul who will bless and guard us constantly. What she leaves behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of our family...."
