Elaine L. Mundt, a 15-year-resident of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Sept. 5, 2023, at The Promenade in Tuxedo. She was 88 years young.
Born in London, England, on Oct. 14, 1934, she was the daughter of Alfred and Rosalie (nee Wyman) Cheyney.
Elaine was quietly recognized as the family matriarch, always striving to surround herself with family.
Her generous heart extended well beyond family members, as she took great pride in helping the less fortunate. She created youth centers, free public transit for the less fortunate, food drives and even helped gather food for delivery via snowmobile in the harsh winters of Berne, N.Y.
She loved camping in Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains. The water’s edge was her passion, whether ocean, lake or stream.
She was the author of the autobiography called “Home Fires - A Memoir.”
She is survived by her son Scott Tarwater of Houston, Texas; daughter Erin Mattingly and her husband Tom of Warwick; two grandchildren, Cooper Clark and Sawyer Clark; a sister, Gloria Polett of Lititz, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Cheyney of Upland, California; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Mundt and two brothers, Ivor Chenagle and Brian Cheyney.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Elaine’s memory to The Wounded Warrior Project.
Arrangements were made by Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. To send an online condolence, visit www.lsvpmemorialhome.com.
