Daniel J. Murphy

Daniel J. Murphy of Greenwood Lake passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018. He was 84 years old.
He was born to parents Patrick and Annie (McKenna) Murphy on Sept. 27, 1934, in the Bronx.
Danny was past Exalted Ruler of the GWL Elks Club; a longtime member of the GWL American Legion Post 1443; and an active parishioner at Holy Rosary Church.
He was the owner of the family business, Murphy’s Park Inn in Greenwood Lake for more than 50 years. He loved his community of GWL and brought much to the village; his many good deeds were done quietly without recognition, as he wanted it that way.
Athletics were important to Danny; he enjoyed golf, boxing and even played on the first football team at Monroe-Woodbury High School; his true love, however, was baseball. He played and coached several teams - Murphy’s softball team was very close to his heart.
Danny was outspoken about how much he cherished every moment spent with family and friends; he will be terribly missed by all who had the good fortune to know and love him.
He is survived by his son Steven Murphy and wife Mary of Memphis, Tenn.; his daughter Karen Annicaro and husband Frank of Warwick; four grandchildren: Ashley, Frank, Analise and Daniel; and two brothers: Bernard Murphy of Westford, Mass., and John Murphy of Long Island.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Wanda “Terri” Murphy and son, Gerard Murphy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Nov. 24 at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 41 Windermere Ave., Greenwood Lake, with interment immediately following the mass at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, 98 Galloway Road, Warwick.
To honor Danny’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the GWL American Legion, Post 1443, 40 Mountain Lakes Road, Greenwood Lake, NY 10925 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memorial and Honor Gifts, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 and include Danny’s name with your donation.
