Dexter Dethmers and Sophie Barnett marry

WARWICK — Dexter Dethmers and Sophie Barnett were married at The Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, Fla., on Dec. 16, 2013.

The groom, a former Warwick Valley High School student, and his British-born bride exchanged wedding vows in a ceremony led by Dexter's grandfather, the Rev. Vernon Dethmers.

The happy couple, who were pronounced husband and wife in front of friends and family from across the world, met in Australia in 2009.

Dexter, a graduate of King's College in Wilkes-Barr, Pa., was studying a semester abroad, while Sophie, who gained a BA in broadcast journalism from England's Nottingham Trent University, was working as a showbiz reporter for MTV.

After four fun-filled years together in Sydney - and a romantic cliff-side proposal at the very place they shared their first date - the bright lights of New York City shone and Dexter accepted an exciting role as account manager at leading digital marketing company Conversant.

Dexter and Sophie continue to live out their dreams in Manhattan, along side their new English Bulldog, King.
