Warwick. Orange County Bike Club presents bikes to deserving children this holiday season

The Orange County Bicycle Club, based in Warwick, and local bike shops again recently teamed up to donate bikes to local deserving children.

Peggy Cullen, club president, and Carol Kalajian, donation coordinator, were part of a group presenting bicycles, including helmets and locks to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County.

The bikes were presented to Big Brothers/Big Sisters Executive Director David Jacobsen and the Board President Sean Barton at Joe Fix Its in Goshen. At Joe Fix Its, Brian Dunleavy, owner, made all the arrangements and assembled the bikes.

Four bikes were presented to Pastor Rosey Andrews from the Northeast Gateway to Freedom at The Bicycle Doctor in Middletown. Rich Cruet, longtime club member and owner, made all of the arrangements and assembled the bikes.

“The Orange County Bicycle Club is committed to helping young people discover the enjoyment and benefits of cycling,” said Cullen. “We’re happy to make these donations so children who can’t afford to purchase biking equipment can now be part of the healthy cycling experience. We thank Rich Cruet, owner of The Bicycle Doctor, and Brian Dunlevy, owner of Joe's Fix Its, and their staff for supporting our efforts.”

Essential information

OCBC advocates cycling for the physical, mental, social benefits and experience in addition to helping deserving children enjoy these benefits in the community. The bike club donates eight to ten bikes each year to youth organizations throughout Orange County.

The club promotes active lifestyles and advocates for healthier, happier, better connected communities through cycling. Over 250 active members, from beginners to advanced, bike Orange County country roads throughout the year.
