Congressman Maloney, I have had two discussions with your “Veterans & Military Advocate Cullen Lyons (who claims to also be a veteran), regarding an issue that I believe is very important to many veterans who served in jungle regions.
In one of my discussions I even gave him a copy of an article I wrote on the issue for the Disabled American Veterans of America magazine.
The topic is a jungle parasite called Strongyloides Stercoralis, which can be a life threatening disease and can exist in a host (via successive generations) for many decades.
I had just learned of this last year via a blood test through my personal experience having served in the Vietnam War in the 1960’s.
The Veteran’s Administration is clueless regarding this when they should have been screening all veterans who served in Vietnam, Panama or any other fetid jungle environments.
I contacted Mr. Lyons twice and your office twice and never heard back from Mr. Lyons or you despite his assurance he would discuss this with you and get back to me.
My interest was in having you try to influence the VA to screen the appropriate veterans.
However, besides discussing this with Mr. Lyons on two occasions and emailing you twice, I know of no effort made or action taken, other than my receipt of your continual standard political emails.
I at least expect the courtesy of a response when a constituent contacts their elected official on a serious issue.
Sincerely,
Bill Lemanski
