West Point Distinguished Organist Recital Series presents a free concert at the Cadet Chapel on Sunday

WEST POINT — On Sunday, March 13, at 3 p.m., concert organist Dr. Kimberly Ann Hess will perform in West Point's Class of 1936 Distinguished Organists Recital Series.

Hess is instructor of music at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, where she teaches both Music History and Theory.

From 2002-2006, she was director of Liturgical Music at Georgetown University where she directed the chapel choir, served as chapel organist and oversaw the music for all campus liturgies.

In addition, at Georgetown, she taught organ and music courses through the Program in Performing Arts. She was College Organist at Stonehill College in Massachusetts from 1994-2001.

In 1994, Dr. Hess won first prize in both the Arthur Poister National Organ Competition in New York and the Gruenstein Memorial Organ Contest for Women, a national competition sponsored by the Chicago Club of Women Organists.

She continues to perform nationwide.

About the organ
West Point's Cadet Chapel has the world's largest church pipe organ numbering more than 23,500 pipes in a cathedral sanctuary measuring more than 200 feet long.

The organ pipes fill the space from the massive six-tier galleries in the front to the horizontal trumpets in the back.

This organ is heard by literally thousands of visitors every year including heads of state, members of Congress, cabinet members and foreign dignitaries.
