Warwick. The fun will include a 5K run and Fun Run, plus a picnic in the park and a cherry pie baking contest.
The Warwick Historical Society (WHS) invites the community to a day of celebration and fun on July 20, in honor of George Washington Day. The festivities will kick off with the WHS Annual George Washington Day 5K and Fun Run, followed by a family-friendly Picnic in the Park.
5K and Fun Run
The annual George Washington Day 5K and Fun Run will begin and end in Veterans Memorial Park, located at 29 Forester Ave., Warwick. According to WHS, this year’s race will be bigger and better than ever, with the course newly certified as a 5K by the USA Track and Field Association.
Participants will be able to race through the village, past historic landmarks, and through the park. You’ll also be able to take photos with “George & Martha Washington” while pursuing medals. Registration is now open at runsignup.com/Race/NY/Warwick/GeorgeWashingtonDay5K.
Registration fees are $25 per participant, with the fee increasing to $30 from July 1 to July 20. The race begins promptly at 8:30 a.m., so be sure to arrive early to secure your spot and warm up.
Picnic in the Park
Following the 5K and Fun Run, the celebration will continue with a Picnic in the Park from 1 to 4 p.m. in Lewis Park. Family and friends are encouraged to pack a picnic basket, and enjoy an afternoon filled with outdoor fun and activities.
Cherry Pie Baking Contest
The highlight of the Picnic in the Park will be the inaugural “I Cannot Tell a Lie – Best Cherry Pie in Warwick” baking contest. Bakers from around the community are invited to showcase their best cherry pie recipes and compete for the title of Best Cherry Pie in Warwick. This event will feature celebrity judges and prizes for the winners.
Slices of the pies will be available for purchase after the judging, with all proceeds going to support the Warwick Historical Society. Bakers interested in participating can find contest details at warwickhistory.org/calendar.
