‘Summer Jazz’ coming to Stanley Deming Park

On Friday, August 9 at 7 p.m., the village of Warwick will present a celebration of America’s music, jazz, featuring several local artists and a guest performance.

It will be an evening of “Summer Jazz,” featuring The Hudson Valley Jazz Ensemble with Rave Tesar, Jeff Ciampa, Steve Rubin, J. Brunka and Rick Savage, with a special guest appearance by Jerry Vivino.

While Brunka and Savage are not local to Warwick, they have become part of the local jazz scene over the years thanks to their frequent appearances.

This will be a free outdoor concert at Stanley Deming Park at the Gazebo at 7 p.m. In case of rain, an alternate indoor location will be announced.

Vivino attended the Manhattan School of Music in 1972 and 1973 where he studied with woodwind guru Joe Allard. He left the Conservatory to pursue a musical career on the road. In between road gigs he would continue to study with Joe Allard and Ray Gerrard. He formed a band with his brother Jimmy in 1974 and the brothers haven’t stopped working since. He toured the country with Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons in 1978 and 1979, has performed jingle work and show work, and has worked with Joan Rivers, Rodney Dangerfield, Tony Bennett and Ray Charles, to name a few. Later on, he was part of the late-night band with Max Weinberg on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” He has also been featured on countless recordings, TV commercials and movie soundtracks, and has played with Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Son Seals, Paul Shaffer, Frankie Valli, Al Kooper, Dion, James Brown, Phoebe Snow, Donald Fagen, Dr. John, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis and Keely Smith, to name a few.
