This fall the program, for serious students of theater, offers three workshops.

From 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, The New Actors Program is offering a beginning class for middle school students. This workshop is designed for young actors who are either beginning or have some limited experience. The workshop will include improvisation, movement and vocal training and scripted scene study. Students will concentrate on character and emotional development learning to define specific emotional elements and applying them to the character in the script. They will be asked to use there own experiences and imaginations in the process.
Also on Wednesday an Advanced Character Study, is offered for students who have taken any of the past acting courses at the Center. The workshop focuses on techniques of character building; including script analysis, development of the character both internally and externally. This workshop is limited to ten members. Actors will be expected to complete a scene and monologue and work in groups. The workshop is held Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.
On Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Movement for Actors workshop runs for ten weeks. Taught by Linda Mensch from the Moving Company, this workshop includes basic movement and some dance. The workshop is designed to help actors understand the use of their body and movement techniques as they apply to the overall acting process.

The objective of the theater program is to provide young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to participate in a theatre experience that will develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and a greater sense of self and community. The beginning class will provide an overview of the acting process and introduce students to the basic elements of acting. The advanced class will concentrate on scene study and monologue development. This class is ideal for students who will be auditioning for college or professional theater.
The program is held in the Pavilion of the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center. The fee for each ten-week program is $275. To register call 845-610-5335 or visit the box office of the SLPAC Tuesday through Saturdays.
