Orange County Day announces winners

    Chester and Goshen-A Warwick resident, Louise LoPinto Hutchinson, won third place in a countywide essay contest for her original work, "Warwick Beauties." The essay and poetry contest are held annually to celebrate Orange County Day, which falls on Sunday, June 27, this year. The day celebrates the county's natural beauty, history, and cultural heritage, and encourages residents to "become a tourist in your own county." Museums throughout Orange County will offer county residents low or no admission on Sunday. Other winners of the writing contest, which asked residents to reflect on their favorite historic building or natural site, are as follows: Essay contest: First Place -- Sharon Waddell, New Windsor, "Trophy Point: A Place For All Seasons" Second Place -- T.R. Lanthier Jr., New Windsor, "The West Point Museum" Third Place -- Louise LoPinto Hutchinson, Warwick, "Warwick Beauties" Honorable Mention -- Betty Apicello, Middletown, "Orange County's Green -- Capped Architectural Crown Jewel" Poetry contest First Place -- Jim Guilianelli, Newburgh, "A View from the Bridge" Second Place -- Walter Worden, Middletown, "The Prodigal" Third Place -- Andrea Urmston, Montgomery, "In the Shadow of Storm King" Honorable Mention -- Monica Claire Antonie, Chester "The Color of the Day" Second Honorable Mention -- Stella Louise Crist, Highland Mills, "The Bear Mountain Bridge" Also on Sunday, the Orange County Day Committee will present awards to these winners and to some 75 children who participated in the art contest for fourth graders. The presentation will be made at 12 noon at the 1841 Courthouse on Main St. in Goshen. In addition, the committee will present the Orange County Day Revered Citizen of the Year award to Ann Botshon.
