WARWICK — On Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m., the Albert Wisner Public Library will present "Objects and Memory: An Illustrated Lecture" with PBS filmmaker Jonathan Fein.

Objects and Memory explores the things we most value:

• What are things in our homes and museums that mean the most to us?

• How are ordinary objects transformed into irreplaceable carriers of experience, aspiration and identity?

This multi-media presentation and discussion will lead the participants on a journey where the commonplace is transformed into the remarkable and where the stuff of history is highly personalized.

Fein‘s credits include the award-winning documentary, Journeys to Peace and Understanding; the Emmy Award-winning series, 4Stories; the documentaries, The Competition, Death Row Diaries and A Change of Heart; the PBS series The Fred Friendly Seminars; the Broadway musical Nunsense 2; and the Wisdom Channel series Interviews.

To attend this program, register online at www.albertwisnerlibrary.org or call 986-1047 ext. 3.

Items recovered from tragediesAccording to the web site www.objectsandmemory.org:

"Objects and Memory examines the response to items recovered after 9/11 and other national tragedies. The film uses objects and accounts of people whose lives were affected, interviews with historians and poignant, powerful photographic images. Why do people value objects? What is it about a piece of paper, a chunk of metal or a small coin that provokes such powerful memories? Without the objects, the stories would lack vibrancy; without the stories, the objects would lack significance. Taken together, images of these objects, the memories they evoke and the accounts of their collection lead viewers on a path where the commonplace is transformed into the remarkable and the stuff of history is highly personalized. The program, set to the music of Philip Glass, is narrated by Frank Langella."
