Nosferatu': The first vampire movie
Middletown Film expert Chris Farlekas will introduce the silent vampire movie “Nosferatu,” which will be screened in Orange Hall Gallery at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. This is the third of the “Scary Movie” series of the Lyceum Fall Films. “Nosferatu,” starring Max Schreck and directed by F. W. Murnau, is one of the most influential movies about the vampire myth. As an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel, it made artistic changes to character names and locale names in an attempt to fly under the radar. What was produced has enchanted lovers of the vampire mythology and other lovers of the grim and horrific since its release in 1922. Dan Bradley of Matamoras, Pa., will accompany this film classic on piano. General admission is $2. All students will be admitted free. Orange Hall is located at the corner of Grandview and Wawayanda Avenues in Middletown on the campus of SUNY Orange. For more information call 341-4891 or visit www.sunyorange.edu/lyceum.
