Introduction to birding

Cornwall Professional photographer and birder Ken Kijewski introduces the basics of birding at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the Museum of the Hudson Highlands’ Kenridge Farm location, on Route 9W in Cornwall. Novice and veteran birders are invited to walk around the farm in search of birds common to the Highlands, such as swallows, thrushes, hawks, ducks, eastern bluebirds and the “jewels of the woods,” the warblers. They will learn ways to spot birds by understanding their habits and habitats. At 9:30 a.m., participants will return to the farmhouse for refreshments. At 10 a.m. they will see a Powerpoint presentation of bird photographs and their descriptions. Kijewski is a member of the Edgar A. Mearns Bird Club, the Newburgh Camera Club, and the National Association of Nature Photographers. Prints of his photographs will be available for purchase. This program is recommended for adults and children 10 years and older. Participants should wear shoes for walking and bring binoculars. The cost is $10, or $7 for members.
