International Observe the Moon Night
Friends of Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge invite the public to get a close view of the Moon on Friday, Oct. 4, starting at 6 p.m.
The outdoor event will be held in the refuge at 136 Owens Station Road, Sussex, N.J.
Members of Skylands Astronomy Club will set up telescopes to allow people to see the craters, "seas" and mountains.
They will zoom in on the Apollo landing sites to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and share interesting stories about the Apollo Missions.
Jupiter and Saturn will also be visible.
People should be prepared for being outside. All are welcome to bring chairs or blankets to have a place to sit.
People can bring their own telescopes and club members can provide advice on how to set up and use them to see different objects in the night sky.
The event is free and open to all ages.
In case of rain or heavy cloud cover, the event will be postponed to Saturday at the same time.
