Do you love what you do? Jimmy Sturr does
WARWICK — Jimmy Sturr, the Grammy award-winning polka maestro, will speak at the Agrisculpture Community Lecture Series, “Do You Love What You Do," on Wednesday, May 9, at the Pennings Farm Cidery.
The lecture series is a monthly celebration of passion in our community, hosted by Agrisculpture founder Amy Lewis Sweetman.
Lewis Sweetman said she is thrilled to have Sturr speak as he has been a lifelong musical and entrepreneurial inspiration to her.
At age 11, Jimmy Sturr’s first band, The Melody Makers, played their first gig at a PTA meeting in the Village of Florida.
At age 15, Sturr personally booked his favorite country band, Hank Snow, to play the Orange County Fairgrounds.
Today, Sturr and his orchestra have played around the world, while winning 18 Grammy awards.
"Experience this chance to hear the stories of Jimmy Sturr up close and personal," Lewis Sweetman said in the press release detailing the program. "He had the vision to make and produce his own polka and the courage to follow his heart. He turned his passion for polka into a profession when that just wasn’t being done. Come find out how he did it."
Pennings Farm Cidery is located at 4 Warwick Turnpike. It is a 21+ venue.
