Commemorate creation of Badge of Military Merit

NEW WINDSOR — Join the Purple Heart Hall of Honor on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015 to commemorate the 233rd anniversary of General George Washington’s order creating the Badge of Military Merit, predecessor for the modern Purple Heart. Festivities begin at 2 p.m.
The program will also commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, with guest speaker Lawrence Vinci, and the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, with guest speaker Anthony Lassiter. Following the commemoration of these conflicts, a musical tribute will be played to recognize and honor all veterans.

The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor is located at 374 Temple Hill Road (Route 300) New Windsor. Gallery exhibits are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
