Warwick — This summer The Warwick Atelier will be offering a series of summer workshops in landscape and floral painting, as well as an intensive drawing workshop. Instructor Susan Hope Fogel will lead all the workshops with demonstrations, personal instruction, personal and group critiques. Landscape workshops are the only ones that require prior painting experience. Fogel is a member of The Copley Society, The Hudson Valley Art Association, The Pastel Society of America, The Ridgewood Art Institute and The Warwick Art League. Landscape Painting Workshops Plein Air, Saturday, July 9, 8 to 11 a.m. Plein Air, Saturday, July 23, 8 to 11 a.m. Plein Air and Studio Workshop, Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the landscape painting workshops focus will be on composition and learning to establish a shadow pattern. Use of the prismatic palette and other techniques will also be discussed to create atmospheric effects. Work done in the studio will include critiques and discussions about how to complete and enhance the landscape painting. Floral Painting Workshops Speed Painting, Wednesday, Aug. 3 This technique is a fun, expressive way of working. The challenge here is for the painter to let go of control. There is no time for careful rendering. It is a new way of working that forces the artist out of the comfort zone with the potential to release old habits. Lifting Out Technique, Thursday, Aug. 4 A very cool technique, favored by students in the Atelier. Once students have experienced this process it invariably finds its way into many paintings. In this process you are actually erasing the painting into being. Drawing Intensive Workshop, Saturday, Aug. 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students will be led, step-by-step, through a series of skill building exercises to develop the foundation necessary to see (and draw), as an artist. Registration fees for the workshops vary. Discounts are given to current Atelier students. To register call Fogel at 986-0986 or email her at susanhopefogel@gmail.com.
