Amity Gallery hosts an exhibit of George Haling paintings
WARWICK — The striking "Found Paintings" of American/French artist George Haling will be on display every Saturday and Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m., throughout November.
An opening reception will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
The gallery is located at 110 Newport Bridge Road in Warwick.
Haling was a graphic design major at both the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale School of Art & Architecture.
For more than 30 years, Haling ran a commercial studio in Manhattan's Photo District.
Always a print maker by avocation, Haling directed the Amity Graphic Art Center for Photography & Printmaking from 1981 to 1986. This redesigned 1870 one-room school house brought students with an interest in intaglio printing together with NYC area professional artists and print makers.
"My interest in the graphic arts and, in particular, printmaking translates well to the photographic projects which now take up all of my creative time," Haling said. " I love putting together 'expeditions' to different parts of this country and France, setting off to focus on something that is strange and mysterious, subjects which can be just about anywhere, waiting to be recognized."
