The Amity Gallery recently announced its September exhibit: “Engaging Worlds: The Surrealism of Eugene Arcieri,” a collection of mixed media works by Woodstock artist Eugene Arcieri (1914-2005). The exhibit focuses on Arcieri’s vast oeuvre of surrealist canvases, mixed media collages, and phantasmagorical dioramas.

His award-winning artwork spanned over 70 years and was widely exhibited in New York, Washington, DC, and other parts of the country. Arcieri was a founding member of the New York Spiral Group (1950s–1960s), a group of 16 diverse artists that included Joseph Meert, Margaret Mullin and Peter Blanc. Arcieri was the recipient of many awards, including the 1983 Woodstock Association’s Yasuo Kuniyoshi Fund Award for his collage, Persona.

Arcieri has been described as a “creative visionary,” who derived inspiration from landscapes, everyday objects, fabrics, mysticism, and anything his five senses and intuition could create. An opening reception for this new exhibit will take place Saturday, September 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Amity Gallery, located at 110 Newport Bridge Road, Warwick, is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, visit Amitygallery.org.
