Warwick Democrats honor Geoffrey Howard and Irene Schacher
WARWICK — Warwick Town Democratic Committee honored Geoffrey Howard and Irene Schacher at its annual luncheon held in June.
The Community Service Award was presented to Howard in recognition of his commitment to sustainability and the environment. As a member of Sustainable Warwick since 2009, and as chair since 2011, Howard headed the campaign to amend the town zoning code to prohibit heavy industry, specifically hydraulic fracturing, and worked to establish the Community Garden, Orchard and Composting.
He also serves on the board of Community 2000, where he is a founding member.
The Jerry Sommer Distinguished Service Award was presented to Schacher in gratitude for her many contributions to the Town Democratic Committee. A member since 2004, Schacher has served as the committee’s co-chair and is currently corresponding secretary.
She has worked on many sub-committees including campaign, fund raising and public relations where she helped to establish the Annual Meet & Greet.
Schacher also is a member of the Friends of the Albert Wisner Library and Sustainable Warwick.
The luncheon was held at The Landmark restaurant. Guest speakers included U.S. Rep. Sean Maloney and Roxanne Donnery, Orange County legislator and the Democratic candidate for Orange County Executive.
