Ira Alexander McCown Jr.
Ira Alexander McCown Jr. passed away in a tragic fire in Pinewood, Florida, on April 19, 2021. He was 74 years old.
The only child of Dr. Ira A. McCown and Frances E. McCown, Ira was born March 19, 1947. He grew up in New York and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in American History at Columbia College.
Upon graduation from Harvard Law School in 1971 and obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government in 1972, he joined the Boston law firm of Ropes and Gray and the NYC investment firm of Dean Witter Reynolds (now Morgan Stanley & Co).
Subsequently, he formed Lincoln Financial Services, LLC which was still in existence at the time of his death.
Ira was the beloved friend of hundreds of people in fields ranging from Theatre to Finance to Politics to Nuclear Disarmament and Environmental Conservation.
His deepest passions in life were trains, both passenger and freight, airplanes of all kinds and ice hockey.
For a majority of his life he was a proud resident of New York CIty, a lifelong Christian and a prominent member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Ira is survived by his daughter Alexandra S. McCown of New York and his son James E. McCown of San Diego, California.
